Your Diamond Guide
A laboratory-grown diamond is a real diamond in every sense. Same atoms, same crystal structure, same brilliance. The only difference is how it comes to be.
The Science
Laboratory-grown diamonds are created using advanced technological processes that replicate the conditions under which diamonds naturally form deep within the Earth. The result is a diamond that is chemically, physically, and optically identical to a mined diamond.
There are two primary methods used to grow diamonds:
A thin diamond seed is placed in a sealed chamber filled with carbon-rich gas. The gas is heated to extreme temperatures, causing carbon atoms to deposit onto the seed, building a diamond layer by layer. This produces exceptionally pure diamonds.
This method replicates the conditions deep within the Earth, using extreme pressure and high temperature to crystallise carbon into a diamond around a seed. It is one of the original laboratory diamond-growing techniques.

The 4C's of Diamonds
Every diamond is evaluated on four key criteria established by gemological institutes worldwide. Understanding the 4C's helps you make an informed choice.
The Sparkle Factor
Cut is the most important of the 4C's - it determines how brilliantly a diamond sparkles. A well-cut diamond reflects light internally from one facet to another, dispersing it through the top of the stone. Our diamonds are cut to Excellent or Very Good grades, ensuring maximum brilliance and fire.
The Purity Within
Clarity measures the absence of internal inclusions and surface blemishes. Most inclusions in our diamonds are invisible to the naked eye. We use VS (Very Slightly Included) clarity or better as our standard, meaning any inclusions are only visible under 10x magnification.
The Subtle Hue
Diamond colour is graded on a scale from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). The less colour in a diamond, the more desirable and valuable it is. Maanorah uses EF (near colourless) diamonds across our collection, which appear completely colourless to the untrained eye, especially once set in jewelry.
The Weight & Size
Carat refers to a diamond's weight, not its size. One carat equals 200 milligrams. While larger diamonds are rarer and more valuable, the cut quality significantly affects how large a diamond appears. A well-cut 0.90ct diamond can look larger than a poorly cut 1.00ct stone.
The Comparison
Side by side, laboratory-grown and mined diamonds are indistinguishable - even to trained gemologists using standard tools.
Physically Identical
| Where They Differ | Laboratory-Grown | Mined |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental Impact | Minimal | Significant |
| Ethical Concerns | None | Potential |
| Price (comparable quality) | 60-80% less | Baseline |
| Resale Value | Equivalent % return | Equivalent % return |
About resale value: Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds are equivalent in terms of percentage of return value offered on the original purchase price. Both retain value proportional to market conditions at time of resale.

Certified Quality
Every Maanorah diamond of 0.30 carats or above comes with an independent grading report from one of two internationally recognised laboratories:
The world's largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute. IGI reports provide a detailed assessment of a diamond's 4C's along with proportion diagrams and clarity plots.
India's leading diamond grading laboratory, trusted by the trade for decades. SGL reports follow international grading standards and are widely accepted across the Indian jewelry industry.
We hold our diamonds to a high standard, selecting only stones that meet our strict quality criteria.
